The trials of focus are those investigating medicines that have the potential to benefit pregnant women, including those aimed at treating non-obstetric conditions. It is important to note that both pre- and post-licensure medicines need data from clinical trials.

As with any clinical trial, research involving pregnant women must follow good clinical practice standards, including strict ethical considerations for medical research involving human participants according to the Declaration of Helsinki.
