WHO/Europe brings medical specialty associations together to shape stronger partnerships for health

10 June 2026
UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark

How can public health organizations and medical specialists work more closely together to improve health outcomes across Europe?

On 10 June 2026, WHO/Europe will convene leaders from a select group of medical specialty associations for a high-level brainstorming meeting to explore new ways of collaborating in support of better health and stronger health systems across the WHO European Region.

Medical specialty associations play a vital role in translating evidence into clinical practice, shaping standards of care, educating health professionals and identifying emerging health challenges. Their expertise and networks make them important partners in efforts to improve health outcomes, reduce inequalities and strengthen health-care delivery.

Participants will explore areas where WHO/Europe and medical specialty associations can work together more closely, including noncommunicable diseases, climate and health, artificial intelligence, trust in health information, innovation and health workforce development. Discussions will also focus on how specialist expertise can help strengthen public health functions, inform WHO guidance and support the translation of evidence into everyday clinical practice. This is aligned with the Second European Programme of Work 2026–2030 (EPW2), which emphasizes the importance of partnerships in addressing complex health challenges and maximizing impact.

The meeting aims to identify priorities for collaboration, develop innovative partnership models and build a shared vision for broader engagement with medical specialty associations across the Region.

Expected outcomes include concrete proposals for future collaboration, the identification of key barriers and opportunities and preparations for a broader regional meeting of medical specialty associations later in 2026.
